On June 3rd the Harmon Racing team took Quarter Toy III to Kilkare Dragway in
Xenia, OH for the 2007 Larry's Offroad Center Spring Nationals. Damon
started things off right by taking the top qualifying honors for the day.
Damon continued to keep the heat up and in the second round of
eliminations he ran a blistering 6.10 second pass. That was fast enough
to beat the ECPRA Pro Stock record he set at this track last year if he could
back it up in another run. With only the final round left to go, Damon
was paired up against fierce rival and good friend Olly Frey. Damon's time
would have to be within 1% of the 6.10 for the record to stand. Despite
the intense pressure, Damon turned in a 6.14 against Olly's time of 6.33, but
there was a catch. Olly had a perfect reaction time (AKA "hole shot")
which trimmed off an extra couple tenths of a second from his time. In
the closest margin of victory possible with current time keeping technology,
Olly came in just .001 second under Damon's time. The good news for the
Harmon team however was that Damon's time in the final run was within the
requires 1% of his earlier run of 6.10 so it counted to back up the record
setting pass. To further make sure the record would not be contested,
ECPRA president Warren Hill and vice president Gene Collier watched as Damon
tore down his engine for inspection. The inspection passed with flying
colors and Damon was awarded the new ECPRA Pro Stock record. In addition,
Damon maintained the lead in the ECPRA points.
